Welcome to the African Canadian Farmers Fund, a ground-breaking capital fund addressing unique challenges in agricultural investment for African Canadians. We aim to foster African Canadians’ participation in the food and farm sector by dismantling barriers formed by systemic racism—creating an inclusive farm sector by addressing biases in governance, operations, and lending.

Guiding Principles

  • The ACFF promotes ownership and democratic control of agricultural land.

  • The ACFF seeks to deepen long-term tenure security for African Canadian farmers.

  • We support the long-term protection of working agricultural and farm lands.

  • The ACFF supports fair pricing systems and transparent agricultural value for goods and services provided.

  • Option for equity buy-out, including equity in housing or farm co-op if the land is held in land trust.

  • The ACFF prioritizes farmers with close proximity to existing markets and communities, often urban or peri-urban.

  • The ACFF supports farmers’ ability to plan for succession and transfer farm and land to new farmers

  • The ACFF works to protect farmers and their communities from harassment or racial bias.

“Throughout history, African Canadian farmers have experienced discrimination, land loss, and institutional barriers that hindered their ability to acquire and retain farmland on equal terms with their Caucasian counterparts. The African Canadian Farmers Fund strives to facilitate autonomy, stability, and opportunities for generational wealth accumulation amongst African Canadians, while fostering economic independence and community development. By addressing historical injustices, we promote social equity, contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural sector.”

About Inclusive Prosperity

Beginning as a partnership between the Fair Finance Fund, Social Economy through Social Inclusion (SETSI), and the Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF), Inclusive Prosperty is today an independent organisation under the umbrella of the Fair Finance Fund.

By assessing and redressing biases in governance, operations, and lending practices of conventional institutions, Inclusive Prosperity works to challenge and dismantle financing barriers for equity-deserving farmers and food entrepreneurs. Together, we believe we can grow an equitable and inclusive food and farming future.
